Hengaw: A Kurdish asylum seeker from the Marivan district of Kurdistan province who was seriously injured in a car accident in Greece two weeks ago has died  due to the severity of his injuries.

According to a report received by Hengaw Human  Rights Organization, on Wednesday, July 23, 2021, an asylum seeker from Marivan, identified as "Ramin Sharifi", died of severe injuries after 18 days in a Greek hospital.

Ramin Sharifi was injured on Saturday, June 5, 2021, when a car carrying asylum seekers overturned in the city of Kavala in Greece, along with another asylum seeker identified as Loghman Ahmadi.

It is worth mentioning that two other asylum seekers from Marivan named "Mohsen Ahmadi" and "Rizgar Ghorbani" lost their lives in this incident.  The bodies of the two asylum seekers were transferred to Marivan in recent days, and the Iranian government had asked for 500 million tomans ($20,000) from their families for each body.

Hengaw had previously reported, quoting an asylum seeker, that the car carrying them was chased by Greek police and overturned at high speed.
