Former ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ detainee Majid Shabedini re-arrested in Lahijan

Majid Shabedini, a Gilak man and former detainee of the Woman, Life, Freedom (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi) movement in Lahijan, has been re-arrested by security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran. His current whereabouts and condition remain unknown.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Shabedini, 41, was detained on Sunday, June 15, 2025, in his hometown of Lahijan, located in Gilan Province.

No official explanation has been provided regarding the reasons for his arrest or the charges against him.

Shabedini was previously arrested on November 3, 2022, during the mass protests linked to the Woman, Life, Freedom movement. At that time, he was subjected to physical assault by Iranian security forces and endured torture aimed at extracting a forced confession.

He was released from Lahijan Prison on May 8, 2023, on temporary bail of one billion toman, pending the outcome of judicial proceedings.
