The explosion of a bomb that was set in the car of a Kurdish political activist identified as Akbar Sanjabi, 49, from Sarpol-e-Zahab and living in Erbil, caused serious injuries to him.
Hengaw was informed that the assassination attempt took place in the "Seh Taqan" neighborhood of Erbil on the afternoon of Monday, June 6, 2022. Akbar Sanjabi, a member of the organization of Iranian Kurdistan Struggle (Sazmani Khabat), was severely injured in the leg and transferred to one of the medical centers in Erbil for surgery.
A member of the "Khabat Organization of Iranian Kurdistan" leadership confirmed the bombing and said that Akbar Sanjabi is a political activist and a member of the party, who resides in Erbil now.
It is worth mentioning that Akbar Sanjabi was previously sentenced to life imprisonment for membership in The People's Mujahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI). After several years when he was on leave on bail, he left his hometown and went to the Kurdistan Region.
In recent years, Kurdish political activists in the cities of Sulaymaniyah and Erbil in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq have been repeatedly assassinated by the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and at least seven political activists have been killed as a result of these attacks.
