The Forced Disappearance of Varisha Moradi, a Female Activist from Sanandaj

Varisha Moradi, a member of the East Kurdistan Free Woman  Society (KJAR) and a dedicated political and women’s rights activist, was abducted by Iranian intelligence forces two months ago. Her current whereabouts remain unknown.
 

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Varisha Moradi, also known as “Ciwana Sine,” a political activist and a member of KJAR, was forcibly disappeared fifty-six days ago. She was en route from Marivan to her hometown of Sanandaj when she was seized, by security forces (possibly the IRGC’s intelligence department.
 

On Tuesday, August 1st, 2023, Varisha Moradi and her companions were abducted, and to this day, their location and custody status remain undisclosed.
 

Varisha Moradi was subjected to a violent arrest involving excessive force. According to reliable sources, she sustained multiple severe injuries and was subsequently transported to an undisclosed location without receiving any medical attention.
 

Hengaw, while expressing deep concerns about Varisha Moradi’s well-being, deems her unlawful arrest an act of enforced disappearance and calls upon all human rights organizations to hold the Iranian regime accountable.
 

In a statement released today, on September 25, 2023, KJAR officially confirmed the arrest of “Ciwane Sine” and requested the UN human rights special rapporteurs on Iran affairs, as well as other international human rights organizations, to take action against the retaliatory abduction and targeting of activists by Iranian intelligence forces.
