Renowned Kurdish vocalist Hassan Kakai faced brutal assault following his arrest by the Bukan intelligence department shortly after his performance at a Nawroz ceremony, where he sang a song advocating liberation.

According to a report obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the events unfolded on the evening of Saturday, March 23, 2024, when authorities forcefully apprehended 64-year-old Hassan Kakai from his residence in Bukan city.

Sources indicate that Kakai endured interrogation and severe physical abuse at the hands of intelligence personnel from 8:00 p.m. on Saturday until the following morning before being released.

Family members of Kakai reported visible bruises and injuries on his face, highlighting the severity of the assault inflicted upon the esteemed singer.

In recent days, Kakai actively participated in Nawroz ceremonies held in Bukan and Saqqez, where he passionately sang Kurdish songs advocating for freedom and liberation.
