Five Kurds arrested by Iranian forces in Urmia

Iranian government forces have arrested five Kurdish residents of Urmia and transferred them to undisclosed locations. They have been identified as Wahed Shabani and Saleh Darbubehchichak, both members of Kurdistan’s justice-seeking families, as well as Behdar Shabani, Farhang Dehghan, and Majid Ebtehaj.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Wahed Shabani, Behdar Asadi, and Saleh Darbubehchichak, all from the village of Gisian in Urmia’s Margavar district, were arrested by Intelligence Department forces at around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, and transferred to undisclosed locations.

Intelligence Department forces raided their homes and arrested them without warrants, informed sources told Hengaw.

A day earlier, on Wednesday, September 16, Intelligence Department forces raided the workplace of Farhang Dehghan, a resident of Dizaj Margavar (Dazi) village in Urmia County, and arrested him using physical violence.

Majid Ebtehaj, a Kurdish resident of Ziveh in Urmia’s Margavar district, was also arrested that day.

The families’ efforts to obtain information about their whereabouts and condition have so far been unsuccessful.

Iranian authorities have not disclosed the reasons for the arrests, the charges against the five individuals, or their current places of detention.
