Kurdish Physician from Ilam Arrested to Serve Imposed Sentence by Iranian Authorities

Dr. Bakhtiar Mohammadzadeh, a Kurdish physician from Darreh Shahr city in Ilam province, who was previously detained during the “women, life, freedom” (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi) movement, has been arrested after being summoned to serve the imposed sentence by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He was transferred to the central prison in Ilam.

According to reports received by the Hengaw organization for Human Rights on Saturday, April 6, 2023, Dr. Bakhtiar Mohammadzadeh, previously detained twice during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement, was sentenced to two years of imprisonment by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He was detained to serve his sentence and transferred to the central prison in Ilam.

Dr. Mohammadzadeh was also detained in early March 2023 after being summoned to the Intelligence Office of Ilam. He was released temporarily on bail for three billion Iranian Toman pending court proceedings.

Running a pharmacy in Darreh Shahr city in Ilam province, Dr. Mohammadzadeh was detained for the second time on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, after being summoned to the Intelligence Office of Ilam.

Ultimately, Dr. Bakhtiar Mohammadzadeh was sentenced to two years of imprisonment by the first branch of the Revolutionary Court in Ilam in December 2023 on charges of “propaganda against the Government".
