The death sentence of 8 prisoners carried out in Karaj and Shiraz

The death sentences of three prisoners, Mehdi Ali Akbari, Dawood Barahui, and Saeed Mohammadpour, along with an Afghan citizen whose identity is still under investigation, have been executed in Ghezelhesar Prison for drug-related offenses. Additionally, four other prisoners, including a woman—three of whom have been identified as Mansour Tawakli, Mohsen Estwari, and Hamed Sakhiteh—were executed in Adel Abad Prison, Shiraz.

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, At dawn on Sunday, July 21, 2024, the death sentences of three prisoners—Dawood Brahui, a Baloch inmate from Zahedan, Saeed Mohammadpour, and Mehdi Ali Akbari—were executed in Ghezelhesar Prison in Karaj.

According to Hengaw’s sources, at the same time, the death sentence of an Afghan prisoner, whose identity is still under investigation, was also carried out.

These four prisoners, all sentenced to death for drug-related charges, were transferred to solitary confinement yesterday in preparation for the execution of their death sentences.

Additionally, at dawn on Saturday, July 20, the death sentences of two men, Mansour Tawakli and Hamed Sakhteh, both 40 years old, along with a woman named Mahmudinia, previously convicted of intentional homicide, were carried out in the central prison of Shiraz (Adel Abad).

According to the Iranian Human Rights Organization, at the same time as the executions of these three prisoners, the death sentence of a man identified as Mohsen Ostwari, previously convicted of rape, was also carried out.


So far, news of the execution of these eight prisoners has not been announced in the Iranian state media, especially the media affiliated with the judiciary.
