Sheiban Prison, Ahvaz: Six Arrested Politcial Activsits Remain in Abeyance After Four Months

Jafar Salmannezhad, Mehdi Memar, Mohammad Salamat, Rastin Ghanavati, Mahshid Lotfi, and Aman Jalalinezhad, six political activists held in Sheiban Prison, Ahvaz, have been detained in a state of abeyance for the past four months.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Aman Jalalinezhad, 33 years old; Jafar Salmannezhad, 26 years old; Mohammad Salamat, 22 years old; Rastin Ghanavati, 22 years old; Mahshid Lotfi, 21 years old; and Mehdi Memar, all residents of Ahvaz, have spent the last four months in abeyance in Sheiban Prison.

These six individuals, along with three other political detainees who are all women, were charged in mid-June, 2024, in a joint case by the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office of Ahvaz on charges such as "propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran" and "membership in anti-government groups."

Aman Jalalinezhad, a teacher and painter employed by the Ahvaz Department of Education, was arrested by IRGC intelligence forces at the entrance to the city on Monday, April 8, 2024.

The other five individuals were also separately arrested by the Iranian security forces in April, 2024, and were subsequently transferred to Sheiban Prison.
