Keyvan Mohammadi, a Kurdish man from Sanandaj and the brother of Kiomars Mohammadi—who was executed 17 years ago for security-related charges—was arrested a month ago at the entrance of this city by agents the Iranian Intelligence.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, 38-year-old Keyvan Mohammadi, a resident of the village of Shiyan near Sanandaj, was arrested by intelligence forces in this city.
The arrest coincided with a missile attack by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Israel and occurred ten days before the anniversary of the execution of his brother, Kiomars Mohammadi.
A source close to Keyvan Mohammadi’s family stated that he works as a driver, transporting agricultural goods. He was arrested at the entrance of Sanandaj while transferring a load from Kamyaran to this city’s produce market.
Since his arrest, he has only managed a brief phone call to inform his family that he is being held in a detention facility.
Kiomars Mohammadi, Keyvan’s brother, was arrested on Sunday, February 18, 2007, along with his cousin Nader Mohammadi by IRGC intelligence agents in Shahramfar, Sanandaj.
On Saturday, August 2007, the two political prisoners were sentenced to death by the Second Branch of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court in Sanandaj on charges of “moharebeh” (waging war against God) through actions against national security, membership in the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran, and identifying and assassinating loyalists of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
This sentence was carried out on October 10, 2007, two days after being upheld by the Iranian Supreme Court, in Sanandaj Central Prison.
