Mohammadreza Faqihi, a Turkish individual and lawyer, has been sentenced by the Iranian Judiciary to 5 years of imprisonment and additional penalties.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Mohammadreza Faqihi, a lawyer, was recently sentenced by Branch 15 of Tehran’s Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court to 5 years of imprisonment on charges of “gathering and conspiring to commit crimes against national security.”
In addition to the prison sentence, Mohammadreza Faqihi has also been subjected to further penalties, including a two-year travel ban, a two-year suspension from practicing law, and a ban on membership in political parties and groups.
Zahra Minouei, the lawyer representing Mohammadreza Faqihi, stated that her client was sentenced by Tehran’s Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court to 5 years in prison for “gathering and conspiring against national security,” as well as a two-year travel ban and a two-year suspension from practicing law and political involvement.
The court hearing addressing the charges against this lawyer was held on September 11, 2024.
In October 2023, Faqihi was summoned to Branch 15 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court to defend himself against charges of “gathering and conspiring and disturbing public order.”
It is worth noting that Mohammadreza Faqihi was arrested on October 12, 2023, along with two other lawyers, during a protest by defense attorneys. The protest was held outside the Central Bar Association in Argentina Square, Tehran, to object to “violations of protesters’ rights and Article 27 of the Constitution.” He was released on bail on October 25, 2023, after nearly two weeks in detention.
