Shiraz lawyer Mehran Ansari sentenced to one year in prison

Mehran Ansari, a lawyer, member of the Fars Bar Association, and one of those detained during the January 2026 protests, has been sentenced to one year in prison by the Revolutionary Court of Shiraz.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, a verdict recently issued by the Revolutionary Court of Shiraz and formally communicated to Ansari sentenced him to one year of imprisonment on the charge of “propaganda against the state.”
Ansari was arrested by security forces in Shiraz during the January 2026 protests. Following one month in detention and the completion of interrogations, he was released on temporary bail of 2 billion tomans pending the outcome of judicial proceedings.
In a related case, Mehdi Ansari, a member of the Fars Bar Association and Mehran Ansari’s cousin, was recently sentenced by the Revolutionary Court of Shiraz to five years in prison and a two-year ban on leaving the country on the charge of “assembly and collusion.”
