Cousin of slain Kurdish protester arrested in Mahabad

Vahab Khederipour, a Kurdish man from Mahabad and a member of a justice-seeking families, was arrested after being summoned to the Intelligence Department in the city. He is cousin of Shamal Khederipour, who was killed during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” (Jin, Jiyan, Azadî) movement.  

According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, 31-year-old Vahab Khederipour was arrested after being summoned to the Intelligence Department in Mahabad.

Hengaw has learned that on Sunday night, intelligence forces raided his home, searched the premises, and intimidated his family. He was also summoned on Monday for interrogation, where he was questioned for several hours before being released, only to be arrested two days later.

So far, no precise information is available regarding the reasons for his arrest or the charges against him.

It is noteworthy that, Vahab Khederipour's brother, Sohrab Khederipour, was a member of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, and was killed by IRGC forces in spring 2022.
