Member of Iranian army killed by landmine explosion on borders of Sumar

An Iranian officer from the 71st Mechanized Infantry Brigade stationed at the Sumar border, identified as Mohammad Salimi, was killed by a landmine explosion. The mine was a remnant from the Iran-Iraq War and detonated along the Sumar border area in Gilan-e-Gharb County, Kermanshah Province.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, Second Lieutenant Mohammad Salimi, a native of Sarpol-e Zahab, lost his life due to a landmine explosion in the border region of Sumar in Gilan-e-Gharb.

Sadegh Khodadadi, the governor of Gilan-e-Gharb, confirmed to the state-run IRNA news agency that Mohammad Salimi was killed while patrolling the area between the “Giskeh” and “Kani Sheikh” outposts.

It is worth noting that on Monday, April 7, two border guard personnel, identified as Mohammadreza Sedaghatpour and Ali Karimi, both natives of Ilam, were also killed by a landmine explosion on the borders of Baneh.
