Sarvabad: One kolbar killed, another seriously injured by Iranian border forces

In a deadly incident in the border highlands of Sarvabad (Sawlava), Iranian border regiment forces opened fire on a group of kolbars, resulting in the death of Kourosh Moradi and serious injury to Rezgar Watandoust.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the shooting occurred on the morning of Tuesday, May 27, 2025. Moradi, a young kolbar from the village of Sepidar in Sarvabad, was fatally shot in the neck by border forces.

During the same incident near the "Teh Teh" border area, Rezgar Watandoust—a father of two—was severely wounded. Sources confirm that he was struck by multiple bullets and transferred to Bu-Ali Hospital in Marivan. His condition is reported to be critical.

An eyewitness told Hengaw that the border forces stationed at the Zhalaneh outpost opened fire on the kolbars while they were on foot and unarmed. The kolbars were not carrying any goods at the time of the attack.

Watandoust remains under intensive medical care due to the severity of his injuries.
