Hengaw - Saturday, May 31, 2025

Two soldiers were killed and two others injured following the detonation of a landmine in the border area of Marivan.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the deceased have been identified as Mohammadreza Haritpasand, a native of Qorveh, and Sohaib Azizi, from Baneh. Both were serving their compulsory military service at the time of the incident. The explosion occurred on Friday, May 30, 2025.

Government media outlets reported that two others were wounded in the explosion: Soran Sharifi, a Kurdish soldier from Baneh, and Major Amanollah Abdollahi from Khomeyn, Markazi Province. Both injured persons were transported to local medical centers, where their conditions are currently reported to be stable.

This incident underscores the ongoing threat posed by landmines and unexploded ordnance in Iran’s western border regions—particularly in areas historically affected by conflict. In recent years, additional landmines have been planted by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) under the pretext of combating Kurdish opposition groups, further endangering civilians and posing a serious risk to lives in the region.
