Eight truck drivers arrested in bijar amid nationwide strike in Iran

Amid the ongoing nationwide strike by truck drivers in Iran, at least eight Kurdish drivers were arrested by security forces in the city of Bijar.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Friday, May 23, 2025, at least eight drivers—identified as Almas Fallahzadeh, Ali Jabari, Amirhossein (Sami) Zolfaghari, Morteza Mahdi-Karami, Ehsan Gholami, Hamed Barjian, and Asghar Rezaei—were detained by security forces for participating in the strike and joining a protest gathering in Bijar.
Hengaw had previously reported on the crackdown in Bijar, where several protesting drivers and labor activists, including Almas Fallahzadeh, were arrested by authorities.
The nationwide truckers' strike began on May 18, following a call by the drivers’ unions and associations, and has since spread to over 130 cities across the country.
