Hengaw - Sunday, June 1, 2025

As part of an ongoing crackdown on protesting truck drivers in Iran, Ata Aziri, a Kurdish driver from Dehgolan, was arrested by agents of the Islamic Republic’s Ministry of Intelligence in Sanandaj (Sna). More than a week after his arrest, his whereabouts and condition remain unknown.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Aziri was detained on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at his residence in Sanandaj by intelligence agents.

A source close to the family reported that, despite repeated efforts, the family has been unable to obtain any information regarding Aziri’s legal status or physical condition. He remains in incommunicado detention.

Aziri’s arrest is linked to his involvement in the recent wave of truck drivers’ strikes and his public expression of solidarity with fellow protesting drivers.

According to the Truck Drivers’ and Haulers’ Trade Union, the strike has now entered its 11th consecutive day, spreading to 155 cities across Iran.
