Tehran – Majid Naderkhani, father of slain protester, arrested amid continued crackdown

Hengaw – Sunday, June 22, 2025
Majid Naderkhani, the father of Matin Naderkhani, a young protester killed during the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” (Woman, Life, Freedom) movement, has been arrested by security forces in Tehran. His detention comes amid a new wave of widespread arrests, following the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Majid Naderkhani was arrested on Thursday, June 19, 2025, in Tehran.
The arrest was publicly confirmed by Matin Naderkhani’s mother, who posted an announcement on Instagram stating that her husband had been detained by agents of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Matin Naderkhani, born in 2003, was shot in the head by two bullets during protests in Tehran on May 17, 2023, as part of the nationwide “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” movement. His family has since become part of Iran’s growing network of justice-seeking families, many of whom have been subjected to harassment, intimidation, or arrest for speaking out about the deaths of their loved ones.
