Report: Ten prisoners executed in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj

Hengaw - Wednesday, June 4, 2025
The death sentences of Ali Abbas-Moghadam, Sajad Nabizadeh, and Yasin Aghaei—previously convicted of premeditated murder—were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj. These executions bring the total number of confirmed executions at the facility on Monday, June 2, to eight. Hengaw had earlier reported the execution of five other prisoners in the same facility, including two Kurds and one Afghan national. In addition, two further executions were reported at this prison last week.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the executions of Abbas-Moghadam, Nabizadeh, and Aghaei took place in the early morning hours of Monday, June 2, 2025. All three had previously been sentenced to death for premeditated murder.
The five other prisoners executed on the same day included Alireza Shahbazi, a 45-year-old father of two, and Ali Karami Nasr—both Kurdish prisoners from Kuhdasht—who were executed on drug-related charges. Ali Abbasi, a resident of Afsariyeh in Tehran, was executed on murder charges, while Shokrollah, an Afghan national, was sentenced to death for rape and murder. Another prisoner, identified as Behzad, was also executed for murder; his identity was confirmed through a report by the Javan newspaper.
Furthermore, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, two other prisoners—Iman Asadollahi, 25, from Gorgan, and Abbas Jan-Mohammadi from Lahijan in Gilan Province—were executed in the same prison. Both had been convicted of murder and sentenced to qisas (retributive justice). Asadollahi had been imprisoned for five years prior to his execution, while Jan-Mohammadi had served four years.
Despite the scale and frequency of these executions, none have been officially reported by Iranian state media or judiciary-affiliated news outlets.
