Seven prisoners executed across Iranian prisons

The death sentences of seven prisoners, including two Afghan nationals, were carried out in the prisons of Shiraz, Ahvaz, Rasht, and Qom. The prisoners had been convicted on charges of “premeditated murder” and “drug-related offenses.”
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Thursday, July 31, 2025, a Lor prisoner named Asadollah Sagvandi was executed in Sepidar Central Prison of Ahvaz. Sagvandi had been arrested five years earlier on charges of murder and sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary.
On the same day, three other executions were carried out in Adelabad Prison of Shiraz. The executed prisoners included a Turkish prisoner from Jolfa named Abolfazl Alaei and two Afghan nationals whose identities remain under investigation. Alaei and the two Afghan nationals had been convicted on drug-related charges.
At dawn on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, a Gilak prisoner named Reza Afraei Mardakheh, about 40 years old, from Anzali and residing in Rasht, was executed in Rasht Central Prison. Afraei Mardakheh, the father of two children, had been arrested four years earlier on charges of murder with an alleged “honor” motive.
Also on July 30, the execution of Jaber Salami, a prisoner from Qom convicted on drug-related charges, was carried out in Qom Central Prison.
Separately, at dawn on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, Mohammad Rikani, an Arab prisoner, was executed in Sepidar Central Prison of Ahvaz. Rikani had been arrested six years earlier on murder charges and sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary.
The executions of these seven prisoners have not been announced by state media, particularly those affiliated with the judiciary.
