One month on: No news of Kurdish father & daughter Khedr and Klara Rasouli after arrest

Hengaw– Sunday, August 10, 2025
Khedr Rasouli, a former Kurdish political prisoner, and his daughter Klara Rasouli, the father and sister of political activist Karo Rasouli — a member of the leadership of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan residing abroad — have been held incommunicado for a month following their arrest by Iran’s Intelligence Department in Mahabad.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, 31 days after their arrest, there is still no information on the fate of Khedr Rasouli, 69, and Klara Rasouli, 37, both residents of Mahabad.
A source close to the family stated that neither detainee has made any phone calls to their relatives since their arrest, raising serious concerns about their well-being. Earlier, Hengaw reported that, according to informed sources, the pair were transferred from Mahabad to an Intelligence Department detention center in Urmia.
Media outlets affiliated with Iranian security agencies have claimed that a video of Khedr Rasouli’s forced confession will soon be released. In the video — recorded under torture — he is said to admit to contact with his son and to providing Israel with sensitive military information.
Khedr Rasouli, a former political prisoner, has served a total of five years in Iranian prisons and was threatened and summoned by authorities following the Woman, Life, Freedom (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi) movement. He has undergone two heart surgeries, and his detention under pressure and possible torture has caused deep concern among his family regarding his health.
Khedr and Klara Rasouli were arrested on Thursday, July 10, 2025, when Intelligence Department forces raided their family home in Mahabad, using intimidation and insults.
