Five prisoners executed across multiple Iranian prisons

The death sentences of five prisoners, Yaser Sagvand, Zaker Aramesh, Ahmadreza Tarkashun, Javad Yousefi, and Omid Azizian, previously sentenced by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran on charges related to drug offenses and premeditated murder, have been carried out in the prisons of Khorramabad, Isfahan, Arak, and Mashhad.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, in the early hours of Monday, August 11, 2025, the execution of Sagvand, a Lor prisoner previously arrested on charges of premeditated murder, was carried out at Khorramabad Central Prison. He had been transferred to solitary confinement the day before in preparation for the execution.

On the same day, the death sentence of 27-year-old Aramesh, a Baloch prisoner from the village of Durk Karimabad in Sarbaz city, Sistan and Baluchestan province, was carried out at Isfahan Central Prison. He had been arrested four years earlier on drug-related charges and sentenced to death. He was moved to solitary confinement two days prior to his execution.

Earlier, on Sunday, August 10, 2025, the death sentence of Tarkashun, a Kurdish prisoner detained on drug-related charges, was executed at Arak Central Prison.

Additionally, on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, the executions of two prisoners, Yousefi, 44, from Kashmar and father of one child, and Omid Azizian, were carried out at Mashhad Central Prison (Vakilabad).

Yousefi had been arrested three years ago on drug-related charges and sentenced to death. His execution was carried out without prior notice to his family and without the opportunity for a final visit. Azizian had also been arrested on similar charges and sentenced to death.

The executions have not been announced by state-run media, particularly those affiliated with the judiciary.
