Hengaw, Tuesday, September 9, 2025
Iranian authorities have confirmed the death of Farhad Kabdani, a 22-year-old Baloch prisoner from Zahedan, Sistan and Baluchestan Province, who was being held in Yazd Central Prison. Kabdani died following cardiac arrest and the lack of adequate medical attention. His body was returned to his family three days later.
According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Kabdani, originally from the Bazar-e Moshtarak district of Zahedan and a resident of Abarkooh in Yazd Province, suffered cardiac arrest on Friday, September 5, 2025, while in Yazd Central Prison. He was transferred to hospital but, due to insufficient medical care, died shortly afterward.
The Baloch Activists Campaign, citing a relative of the Kabdani family, reported that he had been arrested only days earlier and transferred to Yazd Prison. On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, despite having no pre-existing health conditions, he suffered cardiac arrest and was taken to hospital, where he remained for three days before his death. His body was subsequently transferred to the forensic medical authorities.
Kabdani’s body was handed over to his family on Monday, September 8, 2025, three days after his death.
According to data recorded by the Statistics and Documentation Center of Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at least eight Baloch prisoners have died in Iranian prisons since the beginning of 2025, a period of less than nine months.
Kabdani had been arrested the previous week by security forces on allegations of stealing a motorcycle he had borrowed from a friend. Following his arrest, he requested bail in order to establish the motorcycle’s true ownership, but the request was denied.
