Iran executes 10 prisoners in Isfahan, Rasht, Karaj and Hamedan

The Islamic Republic of Iran executed ten prisoners on Wednesday, October 1, in the prisons of Isfahan, Rasht, Karaj, Ghezel Hesar (Karaj) and Hamedan. The prisoners, identified as Mostafa Salehi, Hamidreza Maleki, Jafar Pour Vardi, Mehdi Moradi, Ali Geravand, Javad Sargazi, Sajad Mahmoudi, Kamran Navabi, Nader Mianji and Hamzeh Saeidi, had been sentenced to death on charges of “premeditated murder” or “drug-related offenses.”

According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, three executions were carried out in Isfahan Central Prison (Dastgerd). Among those executed was Mostafa Salehi, a 38-year-old Lor from Isfahan and father of three, along with Nader Mianji and Hamzeh Saeidi, both convicted on drug-related charges.

In Lakan Prison in Rasht, the execution of Jafar Pour Vardi, a Gilak prisoner convicted of “premeditated murder,” was carried out the same day.

Also on Wednesday, the execution of Mehdi Moradi, a 39-year-old Lor from Borujerd in Lorestan Province, took place in Karaj Central Prison, referred to by Iranian state media as the “Karaj Penitentiary.” Moradi had been imprisoned for seven years before being sentenced to death for “premeditated murder.”

Four further executions were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj. Those executed were Ali Geravand, a 30-year-old Kurd from Kuhdasht in Lorestan Province, Javad Sargazi, a Lor prisoner, Sajad Mahmoudi and Hamidreza Maleki.

According to informed sources, Mahmoudi had been convicted of “premeditated murder,” while Sargazi was executed on drug-related charges. Geravand and Maleki were arrested seven years ago on similar charges and later sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary.
