Iran executes 12 prisoners across nine detention facilities

Iranian authorities have carried out the executions of 12 prisoners in nine detention facilities located in Dorud, Zanjan, Kerman, Saveh, Kashan, Isfahan, Qom, Tabriz, and Qazvin. The prisoners had been convicted in cases involving charges of “premeditated murder” and drug-related offenses.

Information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights indicates that four prisoners were executed during the early hours in detention facilities in Dorud, Zanjan, Kerman, and Saveh. The executions took place on Monday, December 29, 2025. Those executed were Soheil Bakhtiari, a Lor man from Dorud in Lorestan province; Sobhan Safizadeh, a Turkish man from Zanjan; Amir Mahdi Navabi from Kerman; and Sina Nadari from Saveh. All four had been sentenced to death on charges of premeditated murder.

On the same day, the executions of two prisoners, Marvan Emadabadi and Yaser Khatibi, were carried out in detention facilities in Kashan and Isfahan. Both had been convicted in cases related to drug-related crimes.

In a separate case, Babak Saraei, a 32-year-old man from Shahriar in Tehran province, was executed in Qom Central Prison during the early hours of Sunday, December 28, 2025. He had been arrested three years earlier following a workplace altercation and was later sentenced to death.

Also during the same day, two Turkish prisoners from Tabriz, Hamidreza Shojaei, 34, and Akbar Jahani, 27, were executed in Tabriz Central Prison. Shojaei had been detained for five years and Jahani for four years, both in separate cases involving charges of premeditated murder.

Three prisoners were also executed in Qazvin Central Prison, known as Choobin-Dar, during the early hours of Tuesday, December 23, 2025. They were Mohammadjafar Babaei, a 52-year-old man from Qazvin and father of three children, who had been imprisoned for seven years on charges of premeditated murder, as well as Asghar Tavakoli, 40, and Ebrahim Hakimi, 35, both Turkish men from Zanjan. Tavakoli and Hakimi had been detained for three years in a joint case related to drug-related offenses.

These executions have not been announced by state media, including outlets affiliated with Iran’s judiciary.
