Three university students arrested in Tehran amid recent protests

Iranian authorities have arrested three university students, Sohrab Asareh, Kasra Amini, and Ali Khanpour, during recent protests in Tehran.

Based on information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Amini, a master’s student at Semnan University, was arrested on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, in the Haft-Hoz area of Tehran’s Narmak neighborhood and transferred to Fashafouyeh Prison.

Asareh, a fourth-year medical student at Iran University of Medical Sciences, and Khanpour, a 20-year-old biomedical engineering student at Amirkabir University of Technology, were also arrested by Iranian authorities.

Nearly one month after their arrests, their current whereabouts, legal status, and any charges against them remain unknown.
