Iranian security forces detain Awat Rostami in Mahabad

Awat Rostami, a Kurdish resident of Mahabad, has been detained by Iranian security forces and his fate remains unknown six days after his arrest.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Rostami, 40, a resident of the village of Khorkhoreh in Mahabad County, was arrested on Wednesday, March 5, 2026.

An informed source told Hengaw that security forces carried out the arrest without presenting a warrant and detained him after raiding his residence.

The reasons for his arrest, the charges against him, and his place of detention remain unknown. Efforts by his family to obtain information about his situation have so far been unsuccessful.
