Akram Daneshvarkar and Azam Daneshvarkar, sisters of recently executed political prisoner Akbar Daneshvarkar, have been detained by security forces for the past two weeks and are currently being held in Qarchak Prison.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, 54-year-old Akram Daneshvarkar and her sister Azam were arrested on Saturday, April 18, 2026, after making repeated visits in the preceding days to Ghezel Hesar Prison, the forensic medicine office, and judicial authorities to demand the return of their brother’s body.

The Iranian judiciary has charged Akram and Azam Daneshvarkar with “assembly and collusion against national security” and “disrupting public order.”

Their brother, Akbar Daneshvarkar, was a political prisoner whose death sentence—previously overturned in July 2025—was reissued by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, on charges of membership in the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization. His execution was ultimately carried out on March 30, 2026, at Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.
