Hengaw – Sunday, May 3, 2026

A landmine explosion in a border area near Zahedan has killed a Baloch man and left another seriously injured, after a mine laid by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps detonated.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the incident occurred in the Lar border region, a rural district of Zahedan. The blast took place on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, killing Doran Barahui (Mohammadhassani), a 43-year-old from Taftan. Another individual, whose identity is still under review, sustained severe injuries.

Baloch-focused outlet Haalvsh reported that Barahui’s body remained at the site of the explosion. His family spent two days searching border posts and morgues before locating his body and burying him. The injured individual was taken to a medical facility by local residents.

In recent years, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has planted anti-personnel landmines across border areas of Sistan and Baluchestan Province and Kurdistan, often without observing basic safety standards or warning local residents. These practices have repeatedly resulted in civilian casualties, particularly among Kolbars (cross-border porters), Sukhtbars (fuel carriers), nomadic communities, and children.

Hengaw Organization for Human Rights considers the placement of landmines along civilian routes a clear violation of the right to life and a crime against civilians. The organization holds the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps directly responsible for this killing and the severe injury, stating that such actions, in violation of international protocols, continue to endanger the lives of residents in border regions.
