IRGC-planted landmine kills Baloch man as victim toll reaches nine this year
Hengaw – Sunday, May 10, 2026
A Baloch man, identified as Abdullah Rigi, was killed in a landmine explosion in the border areas of Mirjaveh County in Sistan and Baluchestan Province. Statistics compiled by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights show that at least nine people in the province have been victims of landmine explosions since the beginning of this year, including six who lost their lives.
Information received by Hengaw indicates that the incident occurred on Friday evening, May 8, 2026, near the “Mile 69 Sofreh” border area in Mirjaveh.
The Haalvsh news outlet reported that Rigi, known locally as “Abdi,” had stepped out of his vehicle when he triggered a landmine planted in the area without any warning signs. He died instantly due to the intensity of the explosion.
The mines were planted earlier by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in areas frequently used by local residents, Sukhtbars (fuel carriers), and livestock herders. The lack of warning signs and the continued failure to clear mined border regions continue to claim civilian lives and cause severe injuries each year in Sistan and Baluchestan and Kurdistan.
