Baloch cleric Farouq Hamli held incommunicado for 43 days after arrest
Hengaw – Thursday, May 14, 2026
Iranian authorities have withheld all information regarding the fate, whereabouts, and condition of Farouq Hamli (Shadmanpour), a Baloch religious activist and Sunni cleric from Sarbaz County, 43 days after his arrest.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Hamli was arrested on Tuesday, April 1, 2026, by government forces while returning to his home in the village of Abchagi, in the Naskand area. He was stopped while riding a motorcycle and transferred to an undisclosed location without the presentation of any judicial warrant.
Despite repeated efforts by his family to obtain information from security and judicial authorities in Sarbaz and the provincial capital, officials have refused to provide clear answers, raising serious concerns over the possibility that he may have been subjected to torture or coercive interrogations.
The reasons for Farouq Hamli’s arrest and any charges brought against him remain unknown.
