Sunni Baloch cleric Abdolaziz Omarzehi arrested by Iranian security forces in Zahedan

Abdolaziz Omarzehi, a Baloch Sunni religious activist, and former instructor at the Makki Grand Mosque seminary in Zahedan, has been arrested by Iranian government forces and transferred to an undisclosed location.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Omarzehi was arrested on the evening of Tuesday, June 9, 2026, by agents of the Intelligence Ministry in Zahedan.
No information has been made available regarding the reasons for his arrest, the charges against him, his place of detention, or his current condition. Repeated efforts by his family to obtain information about his whereabouts and legal status have so far been unsuccessful.
Omarzehi had previously been arrested by Iranian authorities following the events of the “Bloody Friday of Zahedan” during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement. He was subsequently barred from teaching at the Makki Grand Mosque seminary.
Sources report that during his previous detention, authorities confiscated his birth certificate as well as identification documents belonging to several members of his family, subjecting them to various administrative and public service restrictions.
