Iranian security forces detain Turkish civil activist Jalal Derogari in Ahar

Iranian security forces have detained Jalal Derogari, a Turkish civil activist from Ahar, East Azerbaijan Province, and transferred him to an undisclosed location. Days after his arrest, his fate and whereabouts remain unknown, amounting to an enforced disappearance.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the forces arrested Derogari in Ahar on Saturday, June 27, 2026, without presenting a warrant.
Authorities have not disclosed his whereabouts, condition, or any charges against him.
Derogari has previously been detained and interrogated by Iranian authorities over his cultural and identity-based activism, including his participation in events commemorating International Mother Language Day.
