Hengaw – Thursday, June 11, 2026

More than three months after their arrest, Abdollah Mahjour and Salar Azar, two Kurdish men from Saqqez, remain held incommunicado, with no reliable information available regarding their fate. The prolonged lack of communication has raised serious concerns about their health and conditions of detention.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Salar Azar, 36, and Abdullah Mahjour, 59, both residents of Saqqez, have spent the past 95 days in detention under conditions of complete uncertainty and isolation.

Hengaw has learned that after being held for an extended period in detention facilities in Sanandaj (Sine), the two men were transferred to a security detention center in Saqqez. Despite the transfer, they continue to be denied family visits and telephone contact.

The families of Mahjour and Azar have repeatedly sought information from government institutions in both Sanandaj and Saqqez, but authorities have continued to refuse to provide any information regarding their condition, whereabouts, or legal status.

Hengaw previously reported that Abdollah Mahjour suffers from a disability as well as underlying health conditions. He has also been subjected to arrest and torture by security agencies in the past.

Mahjour and Azar, who are cousins, were arrested by agents of the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Sunday, March 8, 2026, shortly after leaving their homes in Saqqez.

Security forces confiscated their mobile phones during the arrests and answered several incoming calls on the devices after taking them into custody.
