Mother and daughter killed in femicide; grandmother dies of heart attack

Ameneh Torabi and her daughter, Maryam Houshmand, were shot dead in Kavar County, Fars province, after they rejected a marriage proposal made to Maryam. Later the same day, Torabi's 83-year-old mother, Sarvnaz Damansouzan, died of a heart attack following the killings.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Houshmand, 22, and Torabi, 47, were fatally shot outside their home in Kavar on June 25, 2026.

Informed sources told Hengaw that the suspect, identified as M. Bazyar, 32, opened fire on the two women outside their home after they rejected his marriage proposal to Houshmand.

More than 10 days after the killings, the suspect remains at large and has not been arrested.
