Hengaw – Friday, July 17, 2026

The death toll from an Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) missile and drone strike on a Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan base in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region has risen to at least nine. The number of casualties could increase.

According to information obtained by Hengaw, the attack took place on Friday, July 17, 2026, when the IRGC launched six missiles and explosive drones at a Komala base in the mountainous area near the village of Zargwez in Sulaymaniyah province.

Hengaw has learned that several of those killed in the attack, including three 17-year-olds, had not yet formally joined the Peshmarga forces. They were volunteers undergoing the party’s admission process.

Hengaw identified the nine people killed as:

  1. Siavan Nikkhah, 17, from Bukan
  2. Kasra Rahmannezhad, 17, from Bukan
  3. Soroush Nasri, 17, from Marivan
  4. Sina Safari, 18, from Eslamabad-e Gharb (Shabad)
  5. Yasin Kianpour, 22, from Shazand
  6. Zakaria Faqih Hassan Agha, 23, from Bukan
  7. Reza Sadeghi, 32, from Bukan
  8. Ahmad Mahmoudi, 33, from Baneh
  9. Farhad Ghamari, 53, from Divandarreh

Sources in Sulaymaniyah told Hengaw that at least two other Peshmarga were seriously wounded in the attack, one of them in critical condition. Two others, including one female Peshmairga member, remain missing as rescue teams continue clearing debris and searching the site.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ repeated military incursions into the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and its attacks on the bases of Kurdish political parties constitute a serious violation of Iraq’s sovereignty, international law, and the principles of good-neighbourly relations. The IRGC is designated as a terrorist organisation by several governments, including the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as by the European Union.

These systematic attacks place Kurdish political refugees and activists, who are entitled to protection under international law, at grave risk.
