Milad Tabad dies one year after being shot in the head by Iranian border forces

Milad Tabad, a 28-year-old Kurdish kolbar from Marivan, died after nearly a year of hospitalization from severe injuries sustained when Iranian Border Regiment forces shot him in the head at close range.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Tabad died at around 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at a medical facility in Sanandaj, where he had been hospitalized for nearly a year.

Hengaw previously reported that Tabad was working as a kolbar in the border areas of Marivan on Monday, August 25, 2025, when Iranian Border Regiment forces opened fire on him at close range without prior warning, severely wounding him in the head.

Tabad, from the village of Galiyeh in Marivan, was initially taken to BuAli Sina Hospital in Marivan for emergency treatment. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to a hospital in Sanandaj, where he remained hospitalized until his death.
