Hengaw – A 13-years-old Kurdish porter, Rasul Yousefi, was beaten to death in Orumiyeh province on Monday November 6th by Iranian revolutionary guards, said Hengaw reporter.
Iranian Kurdish porters, known as Kolbars, are semi-legal porters who carry heavy boxes of goods on their back, most of the time traveling in-between Kurdistan region of Iraq and the Kurdish provinces of Iran.
Yousifi was reportedly carrying gasoline on Monday around the city of Khoy in Orumiyeh province as he was stopped by the border guards and was beaten to death.
“They has harshly beaten him to death,” Hengaw reporter in the area confirmed.
The official Iranian media denied the crime and declared that the Kolbar’s death was due to a fight within the porters themselves, a claim refused by the residents who talked to Hengaw on condition of anonymity.
Residents are reportedly in shock on the death of this very young boy. According to previous reports to Hengaw, two other Kolbars, Majid Dalaiy Milan and Saeed Ismael Yar, were also killed by the border forces in the same area, last week.
The systematic killing of the Kolbars made Kurdish activist to launch campaigns against the Iranian government, in the past years.
Kurdish provinces are among the poorest regions in Iran. Carrying goods on their back and walking for hours in the mountainous border area, for most of the Kurdish Kolbars, is the only way to make a living in the Iranian Kurdistan.
