Masoumeh Yavari, a former political prisoner from Golpayegan, Esfahan province, was sentenced to 13 years in prison by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Masoumeh Yavari, a resident of Golpayegan, was recently sentenced to 7 years in prison by the
Revolutionary Court of this city for the charge of "destruction of public property", 5 years in prison for the charge of "membership in the People's Mojahedin Organization", and to one year in prison for the charge of "propaganda against the state".

According to the Consolidation of Sentences Law, if the verdict is confirmed in the appeals court, the more severe punishment for Masoumeh Yavari will be seven years in prison.

This former political prisoner was arrested on Monday, September 4, 2023, by the forces of the Ministry of Intelligence in her house located in Golpayegan. She was later transferred to the detention center of the Ministry of Intelligence in Esfahan and from there to Golpayegan prison.

Masoumeh Yavari was arrested by the security forces in Tehran during a protest in September 2009. She was then acquitted of the charge of "Moharebeh" and sentenced to seven years in prison on the charge of "association with the People's Mojahedin Organization" and was released from prison after serving this sentence.
