Iraj Mahmoudi, one of the injured individuals from the recent mine explosion in Sumar city, succumbed to his injuries.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Monday, February 12, 2024, after a week of hospitalization in Ilam, 39-year-old Iraj Mahmoudi from Vizhenan rural district of Gilan-e Gharb passed away due to injuries sustained in a mine explosion at the Sumar borderline.
The explosion, which occurred on February 6, 2024, in the Ban-Sarat region of Sumar Qasr-e Shirin, also claimed the lives of two other individuals, one of whom has been identified as Mohammad Mahmoudi (50 years old) by Hengaw.
In 2023, according to data from the Statistics and Documents Center of the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at least seven fatalities and 20 injuries or mutilations were reported due to mine explosions or unexploded ordnances, with 26 incidents recorded along the borders of Ilam, Kermanshah, Kurdistan, and Urmia (West Azerbaijan) provinces.
