Lorestan: Femicide/Suicide of Fatemeh Moradpour Due to Pressure for Forced Marriage

A 15-year-old child resident of Romeshkan county in Lorestan province, named Fatemeh Moradpour, committed suicide and ended her life after being pressured by her family into a forced marriage and child marriage.

According to a report received by the Hengaw organization for human rights, on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, Fatemeh Moradpour, a 15-year-old resident of Romeshkan county in Lorestan province, hanged herself and lost her life following her family's insistence on marrying her to a married man.

According to a source close to the family, Fatemeh was pressured by her family to marry a 40-year-old married man. After repeatedly expressing her opposition to this marriage, she ultimately ended her life.

According to the laws of the Islamic Republic, child marriage is not only not a crime, but the Islamic Republic encourages families towards child marriage in its ideological propaganda regarding the institution of family. According to human rights standards, placing children under 18 in emotional and sexual situations by adults is considered a crime and in many cases sexual abuse of a child. In countries where criminal laws are based on human rights criteria, it is met with severe punishments.
