Young Kurdish Kolbar dies from Hypothermia

A young Kolbar from Marivan, identified as Mahyar Safari, has died from hypothermia in the border regions of the county.

According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on the evening of Thursday, January 30, 2025, local search groups discovered the body of Mahyar Safari, a 21-year-old Kolbar from Marivan, after he succumbed to extreme cold.

Safari had been missing since Monday, January 28, while transporting goods in the Hanjiran border region of Marivan. A reliable source, who was among those who found his body, reported that Safari had fallen from a mountain, sustained injuries, and was unable to continue his journey, ultimately freezing to death. Videos obtained by Hengaw corroborate these accounts.

Hengaw has learned that Safari’s body has been transferred to the forensic medical department in Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan Region of Iraq, for further examination.
