Young Afghan couple found murdered in Tehran amid rising violence against Afghan immigrants

Hengaw– Wednesday, August 6, 2025
A young Afghan couple has been found murdered in Tehran, in what appears to be part of a broader and escalating pattern of violence against Afghan immigrants in Iran following the recent war between Israel and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the bodies of the couple—both Afghan nationals—were discovered in the basement of a commercial property in Tehran in recent days.
State-affiliated media, including Rokna News Agency, reported the discovery of two bodies on the evening of Sunday, August 3, 2025, in the basement of a shop in the Qiamdasht district of Tehran. However, the reports omitted the victims’ identities and offered no details regarding the circumstances or motive behind the killings.
The cause of death remains officially “unknown,” and government-affiliated outlets have so far refrained from publishing further information.
This incident comes amid a wave of arrests, forced deportations, violence, and even killings of Afghan immigrants in Iran. Many of these individuals lack access to legal support, basic services, or the ability to seek justice, while violations of their rights often go unaddressed by authorities.
