Two Kurdish men, Shahab Tawan and Keywan Mama-Goli, sentenced to a total of nine months in prison

Two Kurdish men, Keywan Mama-Goli from Mahabad and Shahab Tawan from Miandoab, have been sentenced by the Iranian judiciary to a combined total of nine months in prison on charges of “propaganda against the government.”

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Shahab Tawan, aged 25 and from the village of Ebrahimabad in Miandoab, was sentenced by Branch 101 of the Miandoab Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Valaei, to three months and one day in prison.

His conviction was based on his participation in the funeral of a victim killed by Iranian forces and for communicating with a political activist abroad.

Similarly, Keywan Mama-Goli, from Gogtapeh, Mahabad, was sentenced by Branch 1 of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court to six months in prison.

Shahab Tawan was arrested on Saturday night, February 22, 2025, by the Intelligence Department and released a month later on bail of 1.5 billion tomans pending trial.

Keywan Mama-Goli was also arrested on Thursday morning, June 19, 2025, by security forces and later released on bail pending the completion of judicial proceedings.
