Baloch civil activist Samad Rigi arrested by Iranian security forces in Iranshahr

Baloch civil activist Samad Rigi was arrested by Iranian security forces in Iranshahr and transferred to the city’s Intelligence Department.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, plainclothes agents affiliated with the Intelligence Department arrested Samad Rigi, a civil activist residing in Iranshahr, at his workplace in a local bank.

Sources informed Hengaw that following Rigi’s arrest, security forces searched his home without presenting an arrest warrant and confiscated the mobile phones of his family members.

In recent days, Rigi had publicly exposed cases of sexual assault against several children in Iranshahr and criticized both the provincial and local forensic organizations for their failure to address these incidents. He had also called on the judiciary to intervene and hold the perpetrators accountable.

Rigi was previously arrested in February 2022 after being summoned to the Zahedan Revolutionary Court for publishing critical statements about the security situation in Iranshahr. He was sentenced to three years in prison and released last year after serving his sentence.

No information has been made available regarding the reasons for his latest arrest, the charges against him, or his current condition.
