Iranian forces fatally shoot Kurdish trader Qazi Kavani near Sardasht border

Qazi Kavani, a Kurdish trader from Sardasht, has died after Iranian armed forces opened fire on him near the city’s border area, striking him in the head.
According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Kavani, a young trader from the village of Doletu in Sardasht County, died on Sunday evening, May 24, 2026, at Imam Khomeini Hospital in Mahabad due to the severity of injuries caused by the gunshot wound to his head.
Sources familiar with the case stated that several nights earlier, Iranian armed forces deliberately opened fire on Kavani at close range in the Jasoosan border area of Sardasht without issuing any prior warning. The bullet struck him directly in the head, leaving him critically wounded.
Following the shooting, he was transferred to a hospital in Mahabad and admitted to the intensive care unit, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
