One month on, no information on detained woman Masoumeh Azhini

Masoumeh Azhini, a 63-year-old woman, has been held incommunicado for one month following her arrest, with no information available about her fate, whereabouts, or health condition.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, she was arrested after relocating from Tehran to the outskirts of Gorgan due to wartime conditions. She was detained by government forces on Saturday, April 4, 2026.

Masoumeh Azhini is the sister of Mahmoud Azhini, a political prisoner who was executed during the mass killings of political prisoners in 1988. Over the past four weeks, her family has repeatedly approached security and judicial authorities in both Tehran and Gorgan, but has received no clear response regarding the authority responsible for her arrest or her place of detention.

Authorities have not disclosed the reasons for her arrest or any charges against her.
