Rasul Yadyar sentenced to nine years in prison following months of arbitrary detention
Hengaw – Monday, June 8, 2026
Rasul Yadyar, a Kurdish man from Bukan who previously endured months of arbitrary detention accompanied by severe physical torture, has been sentenced to nine years in prison by the Revolutionary Court of the city. He had recently been released from prison on temporary bail set at 60 billion tomans.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Yadyar was recently sentenced by Branch Two of the Revolutionary Court of Bukan, presided over by Judge Mehdi Fakhri, to a total of nine years’ imprisonment and a two-year ban on leaving the country on charges of “membership in the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI)” and “propaganda against the state.” The verdict is preliminary and may be appealed within the legally prescribed timeframe.
Yadyar was arrested at his workplace, a bakery, on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, following an order issued by the investigating judge of Branch Two of the Bukan Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office. On the same day, security forces confiscated his vehicle and personal belongings.
His personal vehicle, which had been impounded inside the compound of the Bukan Intelligence Department, was later completely destroyed during an Israeli military airstrike targeting the facility. Despite the loss, the relevant authorities have refused to compensate his family.
As previously reported by Hengaw, Yadyar was held for more than four months in the detention facility of the Intelligence Department and later in Bukan Central Prison without access to a lawyer, family visits, or phone calls. During interrogations, he was subjected to severe torture, resulting in multiple broken teeth and serious injuries to his hand, nose, and jaw.
Despite the deterioration of his condition and concerns for his life, security officials and the Bukan prosecutor, Ali Zahedi, allegedly obstructed efforts to secure his release on bail and complete his medical treatment.
After months of uncertainty and torture, Yadyar was eventually released on temporary bail of 60 billion tomans on Saturday, May 23, 2026, pending the conclusion of judicial proceedings. He is married, originally from the village of Gok Tappeh in Bukan County, and currently resides in the village of Nachit.
Security pressure on the family has not been limited to Rasul Yadyar. Three of his brothers — Naser Yadyar, 38, Mousa Yadyar, 26, and Hamzeh Yadyar, 25 — were also arrested by the Intelligence Department on February 11, 2026. After spending approximately two months in detention, they were released on temporary bail on April 12, 2026.
