Wiria (Voria) Ghafouri is detained in Ward 209 of Evin Prison

Hengaw has been informed that popular football player Voria Ghafouri (Wiria) from Sanandaj, has not been released, despite reports to the contrary in some state media outlets.

Voria Ghafouri, a member of the Khuzestan football club, was detained in Ahvaz and flown to Tehran as soon as possible. After being questioned, he was then sent to Ward 209 of the Evin Prison, also known as the intelligence department's detention center, according to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights.

A family member of Ghafouri says that although his family attempted to visit him today at the Evin prison, they were denied access to do so and were not even permitted to call him. Voria Ghafouri's and his wife Mona Ardalan's phones were confiscated after his arrest.

The intelligence department forces stormed Voria Ghafouri's house in Ahvaz on Thursday, November 24, 2022. He was then detained in front of his wife and children and flown to Tehran.

It should be mentioned that Voria Ghafouri is a formal player for the national football team of Iran and also for the Esteghlal Club of Tehran.
